Epals - Expand your classroom horizons

Image
"Some live by the shore and learn of the ocean, while some  take the plunge within to learn of it and while doing so not only  learn that the depth is unfathomable but discover sights  hitherto unknown." Dear facilitators, Imagine a  classroom  with no restrictions of national borders,   where children  from schools worldwide  mingle freely and learn about  multiple cultures,  a global dimension  is added  to the day to day activities, where students can easily  interact, brainstorm and   exchange  their ideas  on global issues .  This is not a distant dream or a description of any futuristic classroom but something school worldwide  (i ncluding ours! )  are already doing on a platform called Epals .   Over the past three years, our school has expanded its global outreach to over 12 schools across 7 different countries with more than 300+ students involved in collaborative projects across grades. Floop (Collaborative feedback platform)

Image
"We all need people who give us feedback. That’s how we improve."  —  Bill Gates Most of the subjects involve a lot of manual work with paper and pencil, like drawing and sketching solutions. And oftentimes it gets difficult to take advantage of the affordances of digital technology to give timely and targeted feedback because of the limitations inherent in digitising student work and then trying to annotate the work using digital tools. It’s just clunky.  From research and our own experience, we know that feedback is the most impactful driver of student learning outcomes. However, teachers struggle to give enough timely feedback to make a difference. Then, when students get feedback, they don’t always use it to learn. Research tells us that in addition to students receiving actionable information, students also need to develop feedback literacy and the agency to act on their feedback. So here's a tool and can help you simplify the job of giving feedback.  Floop is a br

Duolingo - A great tool for language learners ⭐⭐⭐

Hola. Bonjour. Salve. नमस्ते Interested in teaching a foreign language in a fun, low-pressure way? Are your students addicted to their smartphone? Duolingo might be the app for you! Duolingo allows one to learn languages passively without making one feel stressed.  It is not a stand-alone language course, but it’s an excellent addition to a language learner’s toolbox. It’s easy to use, it’s fun and it works. The website  truly lets learners live the language they're learning ! The site offers courses for 30 languages, including  Hindi, Spanish, English and French  and e ach course in Duolingo is made up of modules (the circles in the screenshot below) which are grouped to form skills.  Students can sign up for a Duolingo for Schools account, which is free  and lets teachers link to their students' accounts and  track their progress.  Teachers can sign up for a free account, add class sections, and share a link with their students to let them sign up to join a particular secti

IVCam app (an alternative to whiteboard sites)

Image
Many of you shared concerns about using online whiteboards and the challenges you are facing while writing on it.  Fortunately, there’s a workaround, and it doesn’t have to cost you anything. That’s because you can use your phone as a webcam and switch between your laptop webcam and phone camera while teaching (eliminating the need for you to angle the laptop screen on your desk to show your work). Thanks to our art teachers for introducing IVCam app; now all you have to do is focus your phone camera on your book or whatever area you want to demonstrate to your students.  Here's how this tool works.  It lets you stream in a live feed from your mobile, has low latency, works  wirelessly has  an intuitive interface.   IVCam's mobile app is available for both Android and iPhones,  but its desktop software only works on PCs , so it isn't an option for Mac users. I f you want to use your smartphone as your computer’s webcam, you’ll have to download IVCam app to your phone, whi
